building an "auxiliary" tower to house extra drives

I currently have a laptop and would like to build a tower to house
additional hard drives and a DVD/CD writer. How do I go about this? I have
looked around the web & newsgroups and have not found anything that
discusses how to do this. My laptop has both firewire and an Adaptec slim
scsi PC card. Any and all help is appreciated.
