Default My video capture PAL settings keep resetting to NTSC every bootup using a MSI GeforceFX5900XT VTD128

hi all,

I've been racking my brain over this problem for months now and I've
searched and searched and still cannot fix this little problem I have....

the problem is this....

My WDM video capture PAL settings keep resetting themselves to NTSC on every
bootup and the only way I can reset it back to PAL is by messing about each
time and loading up the AMCAP.exe program first to set the format to PAL
before using VirtualDub cause if I don't do that first then I get the bottom
part of the captured video cut off and it looks plain wrong. I'm using a
MSI GeforceFX5900XT VTD128 card with VIVO drivers v1.0.8.0 (it says this in
the device manager for my "nVidia WDM Video Capture Universal" section)

The same thing happens with any WDM capture drivers I installed in the past
but I am assuming it's the nVidia card setting itself to a default of NTSC
each time but I need it to stay permanently set on PAL (which it doesn't
seem to want to do?)

Any help to enlighten me as to how to easily set this to PAL permanently
would be much appreciated thanks!

The 108's should be ok..they're the only ones Ive ever used that dont reset to
NTSC on reboot....although..thinking about it I might have edited the INF file..

open up the file NVCAP.INF

see what this bit says.... I think i changed it from AUTO...to PAL..and it works

thanks for the help, I'm sure this must be the way to fix it as you said but
I'm still in the dark a bit as to which part to change and where? do I
change it in the windows/system folder or do I change it in the main place
where I extracted the drivers and then reinstall them?

I attempted to change it to the following but it still seems to get stuck on
NTSC anyway each bootup also there's some very dodgy looking large numbers
in the slider bars (in Virtualdub video source settings) for the saturation,
hue, brightness, etc so I think I messed it up with my tweaking somehow so I
will uninstall the drivers as best I can and reinstall them.

as you can see I rem'ed out a few TVTuner lines with semi-colons (as I don't

as an added bonus it seems to also returns this error in
Virtualdub......Status 411: Warning no frames were captured, try turning
overlay off, reduce capture resolution or reducing colour depth to 16 or 24
bit....... but I am sure that this is related to the drivers as I have
captured video perfectly ok with this card before no probs and the only
thing I did recently was a reinstall of windows.

I'll keep trying to sort it out anyway and I'll post back if I manage to fix
it any and thanks again for your help

I used PAL_I as that is the one which seems to work for me when I select it
in AMCAP's video format (it then displays it as being 625 lines and not
NTSC_M as it always seems to default to. I did, as you say, realise it
wasn't in the list and have tried it with PAL too now and it still seems not
to allow it to be set to PAL and just keeps constantly reverting to NTSC_M
mode each bootup. I used regedit to search for the word "VideoStandard" in
the registry and I found where it said PAL_I and I have changed it to PAL
now so I will reboot again and see if it works this time and repost if it
does or not thanks for the help

hi all,

I've been racking my brain over this problem for months now and I've
searched and searched and still cannot fix this little problem I
have....

the problem is this....

My WDM video capture PAL settings keep resetting themselves to NTSC on
every
bootup and the only way I can reset it back to PAL is by messing about
each
time and loading up the AMCAP.exe program first to set the format to PAL
before using VirtualDub cause if I don't do that first then I get the
bottom
part of the captured video cut off and it looks plain wrong. I'm using
a
MSI GeforceFX5900XT VTD128 card with VIVO drivers v1.0.8.0 (it says this
in
the device manager for my "nVidia WDM Video Capture Universal" section)

The same thing happens with any WDM capture drivers I installed in the
past
but I am assuming it's the nVidia card setting itself to a default of
NTSC
each time but I need it to stay permanently set on PAL (which it doesn't
seem to want to do?)

Any help to enlighten me as to how to easily set this to PAL permanently
would be much appreciated thanks!

The 108's should be ok..they're the only ones Ive ever used that dont
reset to
NTSC on reboot....although..thinking about it I might have edited the
INF
file..

open up the file NVCAP.INF

see what this bit says.... I think i changed it from AUTO...to PAL..and
it
works

################################################

thanks for the help, I'm sure this must be the way to fix it as you said
but
I'm still in the dark a bit as to which part to change and where? do I
change it in the windows/system folder or do I change it in the main place
where I extracted the drivers and then reinstall them?

I attempted to change it to the following but it still seems to get stuck
on
NTSC anyway each bootup also there's some very dodgy looking large
numbers
in the slider bars (in Virtualdub video source settings) for the
saturation,
hue, brightness, etc so I think I messed it up with my tweaking somehow so
I
will uninstall the drivers as best I can and reinstall them.

as you can see I rem'ed out a few TVTuner lines with semi-colons (as I
don't
have a tuner on this card and it said to do that so it doesn't enumerate
the
tuner on startup but it did anyway :-\ ) and I also changed the:

; "NTSC_N", "PAL_433_60", "PAL_N",

as an added bonus it seems to also returns this error in
Virtualdub......Status 411: Warning no frames were captured, try turning
overlay off, reduce capture resolution or reducing colour depth to 16 or
24
bit....... but I am sure that this is related to the drivers as I have
captured video perfectly ok with this card before no probs and the only
thing I did recently was a reinstall of windows.

I'll keep trying to sort it out anyway and I'll post back if I manage to
fix
it any and thanks again for your help

Thanks for this it all seems to be looking exactly like my one here as I
first changed mine to PAL (in nvcap.inf file) and then reinstalled the
nvcap.inf by right clicking and choosing Install on the menu "and" I also
tried tweaking nvcap.inf first then installing the whole WDM driver package
and even though it appears to be set to PAL in the registry, it still
reverts to NTSC_M each time.... Anyways, I'll reboot now that I've messed
with the registry and see if it works this time and I'll repost back as to
what happens thanks

One problem solved it seems

It appears that now I have changed the registry to PAL it has rebooted and
it has miraculously set itself to PAL_B mode!!!! so I am guessing that PAL_I
was some similar standard that seemed to work for me but the real one is
PAL_B and now the picture is properly centred so my sincere thanks for
the help now I just have to sort out why I can't capture any frames at
all in VirtualDub (see problem 2 in my other post: Subject: GeforceFX 5900XT
VTD128 card gives picture but not capturing video at all) and I will be all
set..... lol the joy of computers and their many errors, eh?

Hi NeonBlue

I am facing the exact same problem with my NVidia Personal Cinema
GeForce FX 5700. I have tried changing the nvcap.inf file, installing
it or reinstalling WDM with modified inf file but no luck. For me, I am
not even able to modify the TV tuner type with any application. Can you
please tell me which registry setting you changed to solve the
problem?

Thanks
