Would a Geforce FX5200 make much improvement? I have heard they are
pretty crap. Or what about a Hercules 3D prophet 7000?
Yes I am on a very tight budget.
Thanks.

Yes the 5200 would be much better than the Gf2mx

It would be nice to know just how low your budget is. You can pick up a
FX5200 128 meg card for $54.00 on http://www.pricewatch.com or for about the
same price a Radeon 9200 128 meg card. It's nice to know if you only have
about 50 bucks you can still buy a fairly good video card these days.

I would think so. I had a Geforce2 Ti and even though it seems to be about
the same speed as my GeforceFX 5200 the GeforceFX kicks its ass. You also
might have to upgrade your cpu. You could find a good motherboard/cpu combo
at www.pricewatch.com if you look hard enough.

Just make sure you buy one that has 128 bit memory. Those are the ones that
have 8 memory chips on them.

Make sure it's the 128bit memory bus version, and it will
easily out perform the GF2 MX.

P3 750mhz
GF2 mx200
Budget about £70 or $100 ish.

Is the FX5200 really any better?

Even the post above this one says the FX5200 is ****. But would it be
an improvement on the GF2? Cos tomorrow I am definetly gonna have to
get an upgrade.

Yes, the 5200 is easily a good improvement over the mx200 - which is a
HORRIBLE card, its more like a TNT-1 card. Not worth playing games
on.

Make sure the Fx5200 is 128bit type memory.

Plan on upgrading your CPU/RAM/Mobo... because Any moden video card is
going to be waiting for your CPU to catch up.

Get something like a KT400 mobo (budget) or Nvidia NForce2 Chipset, an
AMD2500+ CPU and 512mb RAM = $250USD.

Yes the 5200 would be much better than the Gf2mx

Only if it has a 128bits memory bus

So avoid the Asus "magic" cards....those are all 64-bits and have the
performance of a GF2

You will be quite surprised at the increase in quality over your old gf2mx200.
