A7N8X Deluxe memory settings please help
Hi all,
please excuse any formatting errors with this message because this is the first time I have attempted to post to a news group. I have a brand new mobo running an AMD XP 3000+ @333mhz My problem is that I have installed a Micron Preferred 512 meg memory stick into bank 1 and it is only reading half of the chip. It only shows as having 256 megs installed. I have memory settings in the BIOS to run @ sync or 100% of FSB or 166. The CPU's multiplier is set to AMD's recommended 166 X 13.0 This is double sided DDR PC 2700 memory. Am I missing a setting here? Please help! Happy holidays Rick |

Do you have a part # for the ram ? The only thing I saw in the manual was
that modules with more than 18 chips on them are not supported. They have more info on the website. Shouldnt have to do anything in the bios to get it to recognise all the ram. |

From experience, if you try to use a DIMM with more than _16_ chips
(the 18 seems to be a typo in the manual), the board won't boot and POST reports a memory error - you don't get as far as counting it. Its says non ecc which would be 16 chips but lower down says dimms with
more than 18 are nor supported. The board may work with 18 but no ECC or it could be another of many typos. I dont have any ecc to try out. Must be the "more than 16", my (paper) manual basically says 8 devices per side max. Ed |

Ed As far as I know, the Standard on this is: 8 Chips=64 bit path=Non ECC 9 Chips=72 bit path=ECC I've found that the manuals says only Non ECC with max 8 chips per side(16 total), and then they say no more than 18 total and show pictures of 9 per side. Since I haven't seen any manufacturer recommending 72 bit memory for the A7N8X, I put my money on the 8 chip per side DDR! Rob |
