Default HP Pavilion dv2700t Special Edition with 128MB NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS

Okay,

So I just purchased one of these bad boys. I was wandering down the threads here and maybe figured out that with NVidia's MXM form factor, I could replace the 8400M GS with the 8600M GS.
I might wonder about the "memory interface" being only 64-bits for the 8400M GS and 128-bits for the 8600M GS. Does this sound like the upgrade wouldn't work then ?

Besides the possible heat generated in the smaller laptop and the smaller screen size. Smaller laptops get the 8400M series and larger laptops get the 8600M series - or so I've read.

a.. 14.1" WXGA High-Definition HP BrightView Widescreen Display (1280 x 800).
Fitting the 8600M GS to this smaller screen should just mean that I have to under utilize the 8600M GS; however games should run very much faster.

Anybody here try to swap up yet with their MXM laptop ?

I think even an ATI M (MXM) would plug in to the laptop - at least that is how NVidia reads about this.

Gheesh, I might of answered my own question. If you look further into the MXM spec. It say MXM-I spec is for small laptops, (128mb memory max limit among other specs). MXM-II is for medium sized laptops (256mb memory limit....) and MXM-III. Other limitations were the actual GPU size. Drat.

So much for cross platform (cross form factor) video card swaps - maybe. This was all started in 2004 (MXM) so we the gamers could have laptop graphics card changes as we wanted, sooner like the desktop game machine. 2008 might find the MXM a little easier to manipulate. LOL or maybe not flexible at all now. I'll keep reading.
For ~ $100 maybe I'll just open the laptop case port and see what I have to work with.
