Default Reset when installing newer drivers...

I am currently using 84.21 drivers. I tried installing the very latest ones
(91.31) and my machine resets when the installing driver components message
comes on screen - the moment when the screen blanks out a couple of
times.Same thing happens with older ones, 91.29 and 84.66.
What is going on? Does this mean I will be stuck on 84.21 for the rest of my
video card's life?
I'm using an XFX Geforce 6600.
