overheating laptop
I've found that blasting compressed air inside a notebook computer's air intake
and exhaust openings can alleviate overheating. Just like desktop systems, notebook computers can accumulate dust and dirt inside, but the effects are more serious... That's not a typical symptom of a laptop overheating. Maybe a problem with the plug or socket, leading to a partial or intermittent short- circuit of the power supply? Suggest you have it checked out, could be a fire safety risk. |

i dont think that this is the case as this is the 3rd powersupply i've had
and every one of the plastic parts of the plugs has melted i think that the problem lies within the laptop itself any more suggestions? I think that you may all be correct.
The fact that you have had 3 power supplies has a significance. The power/charger of aprox 19 volts and 3 amps is more than powerfull enough to melt the plug. Is the problem in the plug to the power supply. Probably not. The socket that it plugs into or very very close to it is most likely the place. A short or low resistance load somewhere is the problem and closer to the input of the laptop is most probable. You could still power the laptop I would check the current draw of the laptop through the charger. If it is drwaing over 3 amps I would look at the connector. Should the charger auto shut at 3 plus amps Maybe Maybe not Would it fail Yes Three times "kirstyevans98 via HWKB.com" u20704@uwe wrote in message news:5e9582c6a9335@uwe... i dont think that this is the case as this is the 3rd powersupply i've had and every one of the plastic parts of the plugs has melted i think that the problem lies within the laptop itself any more suggestions? I suggested *either* the plug (attached to the PSU lead) *or* the
socket (mounted on the laptop chassis) as potential suspects. Given you're on your third PSU, the socket on your laptop PC would be my prime suspect. This is a common problem across several vendors' laptop product ranges and there are specialist businesses on the web making a living out of fixing them. Don't go to a generalist repairer or HPQ because their stock reply will be 'new motherboard' - expensive. The specialists can usually repair your PC's motherboard for a lower price. If you have an ohm meter
I would measure the resistance at the input connector to the laptop If the resistance is low I would suspect a bad input connector. That is my suspect If you have the know how I would also measure the input current. Who to fix it. Ben would have a good answer I doubt if the heat is that extreme throughout the unit or you would have no working unit. I suspect not a completely dead short or the unit would not charge The short could be static depending on current draw and time "Frazer Jolly Goodfellow" wrote in message ...
