Default Windows/Macintosh CDR compatibility ?

I need to put some JPG image files on a CDR from my Windows (Nero),
for a friend with an old Macintosh computer.

Is it compatible? Will they be able to read them?
Anything special I need to do to help them?

Thanks much.

To play safe, use strict IOS 9660 filenames; some longer names are
acceptable depending on the age of OS and additions made, but strict
naming is sure to work. Of course, putting a Mac executable onto a
Windows disc is infeasible and that winds up meaning no autorun, an
unusual situation with the CD icon, but no significant problem. You can
have Windows executables on the disc; the Mac will ignore them.

I've had a couple of dozen discs pressed with HTML, audio and graphics
using strict naming. They run fine in all Mac OS's, Linux boxes and others.

In ISO tab, for Filesystem select "ISO 9660 only" and for File name
length select "Level 1".

If you want to use Joliet, read about Tempelmann:

Autorun is an OS feature, certainly not that of "CD icon" - whatever the
hell you meant by it.

You can make a hybrid (Mac OS 9, Win2k/xp) autorun cd on Win2k/xp.

Stop spreading misinformation, Friggin Freak!

Assuming the computer has a CD-ROM drive, it and your computer are
both working up to spec, and you burn an ISO 9660 disc(standard
computer data CD), you should be fine. Ideally, mode 1. Mode 2 gives
you longer filenames but it does so at the expense of data redundancy,
so it's more prone to developing read problems (but I think it's only
slightly so). All computers capable of reading a CD-ROM should at
least be compatible with the ISO-9660 standard (if it can't, the
drive's toast, or it's not technically a CD-ROM drive).

There seems to be some contention on just how compatible the latest
version of JOLIET is. JOLIET is *supposed* to be an extension of
ISO9660, and one of the few things coming out of Microsoft that
doesn't break open standards. On a system that doesn't support
JOLIET, the extensions are supposed to be seen as just part of the
regular file name (displaying a shortened filename). However, there's
been at least one report of incompatibilities in this group (recently)
with Mac computers and discs burned according to a more recent JOLIET
spec using Nero7.

Thanks.

False on both points.
