Is it essential. What r the benefits?

Depends on the heatsink you use, a Thermaltake SP-120 will not fit with the
DPS, most others will. If nesscary take off the fan and that should allow
for more space. There is still a heatsink covering the MOSFET's and i
haven't experienced any heat issues with the fan removed.

I'm using the 12cm Zalman model, with the DPS fan removed (but the
heatsink left in place) -- Based on the touch test, the DPS's heatsink
is cooler now then before
