Default P4P800SE SATA

I have a P4P800SE M.B. and would like to add a SATA drive just for an
extra drive. The book talks about raid and I'm not intrested in RAID.
Don't even know what it is. It also says I can make a driver off the
CD and put it in when I install my OS. My OS is already installed so
what do I do now.

I have WinXP Pro (box version). I got it from Microsoft on Nov 2001.

thanks

The sata hd is connected to a raid controler, whether you use raid or not.
In order to see the controler drivers need to be installed, unfortunately,
when this is required, they have to be installed from floppy during either
the win install or win repair install. You use the F6 option during the
process to do so.

I am not sure of this but you don't need drivers if your not using it as a
raid configuration. On this board it is done in the bios, so hook it up and
see what happens.
you may have to change the setting in the bios, it's in the manual.

My two SATA drives were not recognized until I installed Service Pack
2.

I slipstreamed my SP2 with my windows disk so my SP2 is already there.
So your saying it'll recoginize it without the drivers being loaded.
Woohoo. Nows the time to buy that 500GB SATA drive.

I have a P4P800se and you can use the sata drive without installing the
sata drivers. The sata drivers are necessary for RAID. If you are using
the drive as a non-boot drive you will enable the drive through Windows.
If you want to use it as your boot drive do a fresh install to the sata
drive. You will have to change some of the bios settings, but the manual
explains this fairly well.

Well now I have a new problem. Not only does it not see the sata
drive but it takes it quite awhile to boot. I didn't time it but I'm
sure its a couple mins.

The setup is the following:

IDE configuration

Onboard IDE Operate Mode [Enchanced Mode]

Enhanced Mode Support on [S-ATA]

Configure S-ATA as RAID [NO]

IDE Detect timeout [35]

This is all it has so what do I have to do to make it see the
drive?????

I think you need to partition and format the drive before it will be
recognized by your OS.

and where pray tell do I do this. By the way it was already
partitioned and formated before I ever put it in. It used to be a USB
drive. I needed the box the hard drive was in for a different purpose
but the drive was working fine in it.
