Default ASUS EXTREME AX600XT - extreme troubles?

Hallo everybody , I think this is one of the best forum I have ever
surfed on.
I'm not an expert but I decided to update "my skills" and make my
brand new PC by myself.
Let's show you my problem.

The problem appears with 50% of probability during boot.
The first bios logo or post is corrupted by some blinking pixels (flat
panel 19'' samsung DVI)
The second and the third screen refresh are ALWAYS not corrupted (I'm
referring to IDE search and RAID search)
When windows boot logo starts, the display distorsion is shown again,
naturally only if it appeared already in the first bios logo screen.
Then XP and icons desktop appear distorted and VPU try to recover,
sometimes it does not succed and the system crashes and re-boot.

My toubleshooting:
1. updated BIOS mainboard ver.2.02 to last version 1005
2. updated BIOS eax600xt to 008.015
4. drivers eax600xt update
5. Vpu recover deactivated
6. Smartdoctor deactivation
7. PEG link mode = SLOW
8. Tried to put the card inside the slot more times
9. Dual channel test - ddr2 test of each one module
10. I contacted ASUS support but still awaiting for good
help

Regarding 7) I found an interesting news here
http://www.ati.com/support/infobase/4745.html
TITLE:
System hangs, VPU Recover errors or corrupted display
when using ATI PCI-Express graphics cards in ASUS Motherboards

Please have a look !

What I'm going to do asap is :

1. FORMAT C: and re-install all drivers from the beginning
2. Tried to have some feedback from ASUS

My main doubt is related to the fact that my power supply is 400 W
and does not satisfy specification 2.0 because is 20 pin instead of
24.

Thanks
luca

I had the same symptons on a Sapphire Radeon X600XT. The dealer said the
card was faulty and took it back.
Havent tried the replacement card because I bought a Asus N6600GT. Btw: The
N6600GT scored more than twise as much
as the X600XT in 3dmark 05.
