Dell's Sorry History of Microphone/Soundcard Issue (Update)
This is getting quite tiresome.
You continue to cite examples of messages on Delltalk (the example below is from back in 2000) that may or may not be relevent to the particular soundcard and mic you have now. You have yet to give answers to the questions I've posed. What are the output specs for your mic? What are the mic input specs for your sound card? "Class_Action" wrote in message ... "hdrdtd" wrote: OK, that's fine, but back to my question, Regardless of which sound card you have, in the specs for that sound card, what are the requirements for the microphone input portion. What does it say as far as microphone impedance and voltage? On to whichever microphone you have chosen to try. what are the specs for that microphone. what is it's rated impedance and output voltage. Now, from the actual specifications for each, does the stated output of the microphone match the specs for the mic input on the soundcard? That's all I'm asking. Dell supplies a microphone if you get the telephony modem. People are experiencing problems with such systems right out of the box. Yet Dell Tech support say they have never heard of the problem, and proceed to jerk around the customers. Just mentioning that the mic is made by a particular manufactirer or that the microphoe is a 'powered' mic, doesn't guaranty that the specs are correct.. What are the actual specs are for both the card and the mic. If the spec's match, and the mic was provided by Dell, then I would say it's a Dell problem. If the specs don't match, and yet Dell supplied the mic, then again it's a Dell issue. However, if for some reason, the spec's don't match, and you supplied the mic, then finding a mic that has the right specs is up to you. One more time: Microphone - low input (9/6/2000) http://delltalk.us.dell.com/supportf...essage.id=7947 I have to yell into my Dell provided microphone Just got off the phone w/Customer Service, they told me that the microphone provided was provided "as a COURTESY" |

Dell's Sorry History of Microphone/Soundcard Issue (Update)
Lets see now.....
Don't know, but the mic came with the system. Don't know, but the soundcard came with the system. And.... If the spec's match, and the mic was provided by Dell, then I would say it's a Dell problem. If the specs don't match, and yet Dell supplied the mic, then again it's a Dell issue. Don't forget, if this is a recently bought system and no matter what, Dell hasn't resolved your problem to your satifaction, you have 30 days to just return the system. That doesn't resolve your needs though, whatever you get to replace the Dell will have a similar setup necessary to record from the mic. |

I didn't lose the bet. The example was not the appropriate mic. Case closed. No response to this. Why don't you help out? Low Mic Volume? (10/29/05) http://delltalk.us.dell.com/supportf...ssage.id=61754 I have read several posts about the low mic volume on Dimension Desktops with the Soundblaster 24k Sound Card but unfortunately I haven't found any of them with a solution. Is there to date a solution for this? I bought my pc for the purpose of Voice chatting that I use for business purposes on a daily basis and would really appreciate any fix for this. Mic recording low http://delltalk.us.dell.com/supportf... =205621#M848 I have a powered mic plugged in to the sound card, a Radio Shack model. Since my last post I also discovered the Ymf-diag.exe from the knowledge base, downloaded and ran it. I get exactly the same results as from running MS sound recorder; very low output either directly or if I saved a wave file and played it back. On the sound recorder modulation line there is no apparent modulation unless I have the mic touching my lips. From a normal recording distance (~ 12") there is such a low sound to the speakers as to be undiscernable. Radio Shack mic will not record on Creative PCI 64V card http://delltalk.us.dell.com/supportf...essage.id=1716 This computer is exactly two days old. It did not come with a mic so I purchased one from Radio Shack. With two fresh AAA batteries, installed, I launched Audio Recorder. No good. I tried to send an ICQ voice message; no good. Today I returned the mic to Radio Shack & they provided me with a replacement which tested aok on a hand-held cassette recorder in the store. INserting the two -contact banana plug into the red jack on the sound card proved this mic would not work, as well. "Class_Action" classactionlaw1 AT yahoo DOT com wrote: -------------------------------------------------- Dell's Sorry History of Microphone/Soundcard Issue -------------------------------------------------- Here are the selected compilations of Dell microphone/soundcard issue posted in the Dell Dimension audio forum. Note that the problem was reported from the very beginning of the forum establishment in late 1999 and continuing to this day. It makes you wonder if Dell ever made functioning mic/soundcard. Despite all the numerous problem reports spanning many years, Dell is unconscionably not only not acknowledging the problem, but reprehensively engages in jerking around the customers with the same runaround tactic over these years. [See the post on (1/29/2002)] A law firm is on the verge of being retained to file a class action lawsuit on this issue. If you would like join in the lawsuit or have relevant information to pass along, please email: classactionlaw1 AT yahoo DOT com [the last character in name is numeral one] |
