nVidia driver upgrade for BFG nVidia Geforce 6800GT OC (AGP) - from 71.89 to 78.01
Hello. For my BFG nVidia Geforce 6800GT OC (AGP), I upgraded my 71.68 nVidia
driver to the latest (I think) nVidia driver for this 6800GT - the 78.01 driver. I performed the 71.68 uninstall, and then installed the 78.01 (specifically, the 7.8.0.1) download from the nVidia website. It's 20.1 GB, by the way. Have had no noticeable problems yet, thank goodness. This is using a huge desktop computer with a Intel P4 3.4 GHz motherboard, a 480-watt Enermax PSU, a 300 GB Seagate SATA HDD, of course, the prerequisite DVD+/-RW and DVD-ROM devices. And gobs of fans in a lovely and roomy - yet monstrous - Enermax case (I LOVE Enermax cases and power supplies!). No problems yet. Main question: Has anyone here had any difficulties with this WHQL-approved & certified driver update using in particular - the BFG nVidia Geforce 6800GT OC (AGP) video card? I haven't. Just curious to see if something (i.e., "problems") might pop up later I need to fix and/or adjust using this new 78.01 driver with my BFG nVidia Geforce 6800GT OC (AGP) card. Any tests I might want to run, etc.? Thanks! Mark |

Goes through the install process and then appears to hang near the end, the screen goes blank and then just rubbish on the screen and the m/c locks up. Tried un-installing old drivers first and cleaning out any rubbish left in registry. This is the first driver that would not install, so it was back to a previous version for me. Running XP with a AMD 3500 64bit cpu on a MSI Neo 2 Platinum, with a XFX 6800GT card, and 1gig memory. Very weird! Mike |

Mike, (or anyone) do you think it may have something to do with you running the AMD 3500 64 bit CPU rather than a 32-bit processor? Perhaps you need a more sophisticated, "better" driver set than the nVidia 78.01. I really wouldn't know, but maybe someone else here would. Mark |

Well the 64bit cpu's are fully backwards compatible with 32bit Apps, and I've
never had any problem with any previous drivers, so I think they have screwed up something in this version that does not like my m/c. Mike |

"edde" was shocked into disbelief, and asked: 20.1 GB!!!! How many days did that take to download?! I am SO sorry! I meant 20.1 MEGAbytes! What an idiot I am. No wonder my ISP just walks all over me. They gave me two tin cans and a string and told me I had a T-2 line - and if I paid them another small "fee" for an extra tin can ("It's the ultimate in BroadBand! You'll have a genuine "T-3" line then!") Sorry! Mark |
