Default Gigabyte GA-7DXR/Audigy 2/Nvidia compatibility problem

Hi all. We have a GA-7DXR motherboard with an AMD Athlon 1800 CPU, an
Audigy 2 Platinum sound card and an Nvidia OR Voodoo 5 graphics card (we
have tried using both alternately).

Until recently this system worked fine. Then we upgraded the hard disk from
80GB to 120GB and everything now goes poear shaped when the Audigy sound
card drivers are installed. BSODs, Windows protection errors, you name it
we get it on boot up. The machine is unusable.

We have tried clean installations of the operating system (Windows ME) but
it all falls over when the sound card drivers are implemented. Somewhere my
son has read of conflicts between this sound card and this motherboard.

Any advice gratefully received as we have tried reformatting/reinstalling
endlessly.

Wrong newsgroup, try

alt.comp.periphs.mainboard.giga-byte

or

alt.comp.periphs.mainboard.gigabyte

someone there might be able to help.
