Somewhat off-topic...Customizing the TIF limit for Internet Explorer
I asked this question in a IE 6 newsgroup but didn't get a response, so I
thought I'd try here. I have a Dell 2400, running XP Home SP1 with IE 6 SP1 as my web browser. I have the TIF (Temporary Internet Files) limit set to 5MB. But just today, I ran Disk Cleanup (didn't delete anything) and it reported 9.5 TIF's on my hard drive! I visited a few more web sites, ran Disk Cleanup again and the TIF limit went back down to 5MB. So does this mean that Internet Explorer will not accept a 5MB limit on TIF's? |

You are looking too far into this. there will be a percentage above the max. settings for
the IE cache. However, its not significant to worry about. You are the first, I have seen, to call the IE cache as Temporary Internet Files or TIF. You are better off using standard nomenclature, call it the IE cache. In addition you can set the IE cache to any number. I always suggest 10MBs since that is all that is needed and the IE default of using a percentage is ludicrous. Imagine a 100GB drive using 10% for the IE cache. That's 10GB of pure wasted space plus, instead of speeding up operations, the intent of the cache, it will slow down the web process. It will also slow down the disk defragmentation and the Check Disk function, tremendously. In summation, don't worry if you the IE cache to 5MB and it consumes more. It is not that important of an issue.
