ATI Radeon undocumented bug- Can't use Radeon with with CRT's.
My Sept 2010 experience with an ATI Radeon card.
After installing the HIS 8550 Radeon in my new system a few days ago I found out that there is no way to change the crt refresh rate. Radeon is locked at 60 hz. It is made for LCD's. Period. So, today I took the 8550 back and got a evga nvidia gtx 470. I can set refresh to just about anything and won't have to buy a new monitor. |

That is a very old card.
Did you install the ATI drivers 6.11 from their web site? They only have them for up to XP 32 bit. -- Ed Light Better World News TV Channel: http://realnews.com Iraq Veterans Against the War and Related: http://ivaw.org http://couragetoresist.org http://antiwar.com Send spam to the FTC at Thanks, robots. |

Oops... I transposed the numbers. Meant to say HIS 5850, Turbo iCooler. I got the latest drivers for that gpu from the ATI website. Still did not work. According to the overclocking forums there is a work around that may work with XP: down load two programs to build my own *.inf files. Did not think it was worth the effort though. |

I got the latest drivers for that gpu from the ATI website. Still did not work. According to the overclocking forums there is a work around that may work with XP: I have found that for XP the drivers after 10.4 are no good. I can't adjust any AVIVO Video anything. So possibly other things are wrong. At least my 4670 does connect with the new 10.1 Flash Player in Win 7 (not XP) and lets me enhance it a whole lot. I tried a geforce GT 240 and couldn't get it to connect with Flash in XP, nor in Win 7. The Win 7 ATI drivers have some anomalies with the AVIVO settings, though. But I work around those. -- Ed Light Better World News TV Channel: http://realnews.com Iraq Veterans Against the War and Related: http://ivaw.org http://couragetoresist.org http://antiwar.com Send spam to the FTC at Thanks, robots. |

I might add that in the ATI drivers I can create profiles for AVIVO settings that I can select from the tray icon. When I was trying the geforce with the latest drivers, it wouldn't save my Video settings in a profile when I selected "Overlay". I couldn't save a profile while in the Video settings. And forget about choosing a profile from the tray icon -- though the old drivers had that. I really think that the control panel teams of ATI and nvidia do not use them at home. They are so sloppy. -- Ed Light Better World News TV Channel: http://realnews.com Iraq Veterans Against the War and Related: http://ivaw.org http://couragetoresist.org http://antiwar.com Send spam to the FTC at Thanks, robots. |

What video did you use before the 5850? And are the drivers for the old video still installed? Have you installed your chipset drivers? I know none of this makes a difference now because you don't even have the card anymore, but I'm sure there are many people out there who are successfully using the 5850 with a CRT, as I was until my newest LCD monitor. Your subject line is ridiculous. |

ATI Radeon undocumented bug- Can't use Radeon with with CRT's.
The 60Hz annoyance has plagued ATi drivers for almost 10 years. Apparently
it's tied to WHQL certification. Use this little program: http://www.pagehosting.co.uk/rf/ Being "made for LCDs" isn't that big a drawback nowdays, since it's impossible to find consumer-grade CRTs anymore. -- "War is the continuation of politics by other means. I'm wondering if installing/not installing the monitor driver from the
monitor manufacturer could make a difference? -- Ed Light Better World News TV Channel: http://realnews.com Iraq Veterans Against the War and Related: http://ivaw.org http://couragetoresist.org http://antiwar.com Send spam to the FTC at Thanks, robots. |
