Resulting in lots of ****ty unrelated threads that don't interest me in the
least.

It appears that many/most here in the group don't have a problem with this.

I assume this since many "regulars" here are willingly contributing to
extending the threads rather than calling these dumbazzes out while removing
the crossposts.

Screw this.

I'm out, people. It's been a great ride for 8 years.

Peace.

Stew

Hi!

Screw this.
I'm out, people. *It's been a great ride for 8 years.

Now hold on...you REALLY mean to tell me that after all that time and
posting, you're leaving because posts enter into more than one group?

I don't believe that.

I don't crosspost and remove the x-posted groups--when I notice that
they are there. I can appreciate the belief that a poster might have
about getting better answers and stimulating discussion, but when the
other groups aren't as well behaved as this one... (yes, I'm looking
at that 24 hour helpdesk group) ... well... sorry, folks, it doesn't
work that way!

Well, if you're still leaving, this group is going to lose a good
resource...

stew,
don't leave us, it won't be the same without you. you consistently give
good advice and deliver it in a way that is always enjoyable to read.
newsgroups on a whole have become very weak in the last few years and
traffic is way off as the major isps cut them from basic services, but as
yet there is no quality alternative. many other forums like tom's hardware
are just too unfocused and terribly inconsistent. dells forums are a
disgrace with the miserable clumsy and slow navigation, absurd censorship
with deletion or posts (done without explanation so the offense could be
avoided), and the hit and run nature of contributors that makes dell's name
'community forum' rather absurd (more like a tourist stop than a community).
a rarity on the dell forums is a correlation between people that are
knowledgeable with those that can express themselves well. you, my internet
friend, are one of those rare people. i am sure i am not alone in my
appreciation for all of your posts over the years. and though there isn't
much holding this place together anymore you are one of the pillars keeping
it from crumbling down. yet i fully understand your frustration. give
yourself a brake, but please don't say you are done with this group or i
will start to email you privately
kind regards,

I too find it hard to believe that it bothers you this much but ok, if
that's how you feel, I wish you well and say goodbye.

Stew,

Stick around. Please. You add too much value.

Skip the threads that deteriorate into noisy static, like this one.

I confess to being one of the regulars on mental autopilot who replies
to all cross-posted newsgroups. I'll watch it in the future.

Yeah but you do a dis-service to the OP who will not know that he/she
will have to check in this newsgroup for a reply. Who are we trying
to help, Stew or the OP in this case?

If the OP posted here, he/she better have enough sense to check here for
a response. It's that simple... Ben

But suppose they crossposted from another newsgroup, then they may not
know to check here !!!

Just to add to my reply above, you seem to be missing the point of
crossposting in the first place.
