I have never seen a Dell OS CD that included crapware? This must be an
urban legend that lives on in the minds of a few...... "vbDavidC" wrote in message ... I guess you resolved the key issue. You should also make an image of the hard drive after you install the OS, get the MS updates and install your software. One reason is also is so you don't use the Dell install CD that may have the crapware on it. I use Acronis True Image but I recently tried DriveImage XML and it worked well. I am not a big fan of running these imaging apps in Windows so I always do it from a separate boot CD. I For DriveImage XML I created a BartPE CD with DriveImage XML on it. |

The Windows Vista Ultimate Premium CD key is not on the machine - it came from the factory that way. How do I get ahold of it so I can reinstall the OS? Or... let me guess - my only option is to use the reinstall DVD and have all the crapware install along with it? Do not mention PC decrapifier. With my Studio Laptop it is on the inside of the battery cover. Camper on my daughters notebook it was under the battery on the chassis...bloody stupid place to put it. Trying to make it more difficult to sell the COA's on ebay and such or outright pirate a machine from parts. You'll recall people were selling memory panels on parted out laptops solely because of the Windows COA on them....... Now such an act is impossible. Maybe they should put them on the inside of the chassis under the hard drive from now on! Even better, write it in invisible ink under the hard drive! Its not like this prevents software piracy - they have these things called photocopiers. Digital cameras. Hell even a pen to write down the damn COA. You're acting as if the product key is the only issue. It's not. Some people - myself included - won't buy a system that has no COA label attached to the system/system base. My point is that it's a helluva lot easier to sell a laptop memory panel with its attached COA label than it is to sell/re-assemble an entire laptop from the base up. Does it stop piracy? Of course not. Does it make it illegal COA label transfers really inconvenient in some cases? Yeah, it probably does. Not sure why that's not obvious. |

Hi!
I have never seen a Dell OS CD that included crapware? This must be an urban legend that lives on in the minds of a few...... They *do* exist. You will have to work fairly hard to find one, the complaints from people who bought Dell equipment because they thought they would get an OS install disc that was "simply un-fooled around with". William My Latitude LT of many moons ago had one, but that is because it was just a rebadged Sanyo. |

Oh, and that you have to be a Unix systems administrator to even install it. Which version of Adobe Creative Suite would I use? Which version of Office would I use (and don't bother me with the 'almost the same clones'. They're not). |
