Default Hard drive will not boot

I have a 2-month-old A-Bit IS7 motherboard. I also have a new prime
drive, which is SATA 250 gig Maxitor drive. I installed Win XP home
edition. It ran well for about two months. Then XP gave me an error
message that there was a problem with my main drive. I did a restart
and XP would not boot. I inserted the XP disk and change the bios to
boot first from the CD. I was able to repair the affected disk, and
then used the XP CD repair the XP on the hard drive. I then when to
the boot order in the bios to "normal" first floppy, 2nd hard drive,
third from CD, and XP still would not boot from the hard drive!!

If I have the boot order 1st CD, 2nd HD 3rd CD, and leave a copy of
the XP system disk in the drive, XP will boot from the hard drive and
work normally. The computer will ask to hit any key to boot from the
CD, if I do nothing it then boots and loads XP from the hard drive.
This is strange, functional but inconvenient. Any help would be
appreciated

That's what you get when you buy crud! IMNSHO, Maxtor has to be the worst
manufacturer out there - closely followed by IBM/Hitachi. Oh, and Fujitsu
aren't too hot, either.
