I used the Copy Partition feature in Partition Magic 8. I didn't realize
beforehand that it could work. It was just a shot in the dark, since I
hadn't heard of others using PM to image a partition (I don't believe you
can image an entire disk at once, though). I was planning on using the
Maxtor MaxBlast image app, but it didn't want to load, even though I had a
Maxtor SATA drive on the ICH5R controller (Maxtor notes that you must have
at least one of their drives installed for MaxBlast to work, but maybe they
mean IDE). PM was actually very easy & intuitive.

Well, overall the experience wasn't too bad. Here's what I ended up

doing.
Since I already had an XP installation, I had the SiI drivers already
installed when I first set up the motherboard. I hooked up the two new

sata
drives on the SiI controllers. Set them up as a stripe array during at

the
SiI boot screen. After Windows booted I created a partition using

Partition
Magic onto the new striped array (set as primary & active in PM) &

copied
the old OS partition to it. Reassigned drive letters in Partition Magic

(the
new array given C. Shut down the computer, unhooked the old drive

prior to
rebooting to make sure I had a clean break from the old boot drive, &
windows loaded from the new array ok. Rebooted several times, opened

apps,
etc. making sure everything was solid.

What did you use to copy from one drive to another? Ghost? DriveImage?
