Default Optical mice jitter problems when lifted - Correction

I have avoided using optical mice because of the jitter(when you lift
mouse and it makes the pointer jump from side to side or whip arround)
problem that occurs. But I had to start using a new mouse and its an
optical mouse(not just mechanical optical like my older mouse) and I
have found that applying a single peice of clear tape over the optics
removes what I call the jitter. Anyone esle do this?
