Default Aspire 1705-Sci: Fatal Exception in VXD acpi(0C) during Win98-setup while detecting PnP-hardware

Hi

I wanted to install W98 on my new Acer Aspire 1700 laptop (besides XP) but
something
goes wrong.

- the setup-phase of file copying goes fine.
- at 100% setup wants to restart after which it goes into the second halve
of setup
- right after entering the key-code it comes to the phase during which it
detects the PnP-hardware. Immediately after the start of this I get:

a blue screen with the message: fatal exception OE at 0028:FF034E21 in VXD
acpi(0C) + 00008131).

- I can restart or choose enter to "stop the application" The next screen is
garbled/ proves that the PC is locked up.

- formatting and trying again results in the same situation.

Anyone a suggestion???

Thanks in advance

Erik

dual-boot windows operating systems need to be installed in the order they
were released... so install win98, then do XP.

good luck!
