Default Dual monitor - Very wide screen

Is it possible to unite a dual monitor setup to a single logical unit?
That is, instead of having two 1280x1024 monitors, I would like it to
appear as one 2560x1024 monitor.

The reason i ask is that i would like to watch video on what would
appear as a big screen. So, if there's any other way to accomplish this,
let me know.

I have a Radeon 9500 card and using WindowsXP pro.

nope

video is sent to the overlay 'layer' on a video card, i would think it would
be possible to send video data to each video cards overlay, and just display
part of the image

anyone know any setups that do this sort of thing, might be neat if i have
like 16 monitors hehe
