Default Athlon 64 more powerful than Itanium 2? Plus Dual core...

I was just wondering if this is so. I saw a comparison that said it far outdid the Itanium I chip.

I am also new to AMD. I was going to make the switch back when the Athlon first came out but I was afraid of change. Now that AMD has the mem controller on chip, that has peaked my interest. That combined with the fact the dual cores are around the corner, I need an intermediate machine until I can get that. I also wanted to save loot on having to by yet another new video card and yet another new type of memory. I am leaving my dual Xeon setup for an Athlon 64. 64-bit computing and Intel's move to 64-bits in the Xeons led me to make this move.

Since I could not get information on if the 64-bit Xeons would be dual core capable, I just decided to not go with that right now. I also need to get peak value for selling my Xeon parts. This way I make little investment as opposed to blowing money on a new video card just because they don't want to put an AGP slot next to a picx slot.

It will be rough going back to a single CPU, but I feel the right choice has been made. Besides, when I am done, I can turn this into a server. Any word on the dual cores? They seem to do what dual CPU setups should have been doing in the first place. Do you know which chips are already dual core capable?
