Default strange harddisk behaviour due to weak power supply ?

the secondary harddisk drive in my pc
is being turned off and on (sometimes repetitive)
at arbitrary times, so that it doesn't appear
under w98, or causes the computer to hang resp.
i don't get any further with this problem.
I have an ASUS P5A K6 board with a patched
BIOS in order to cope with large drives.
Is this due to a weak power supply, a BIOS
problem or could it be a virus ??
If you have any idea, please let me know.
thanks! jyrgen
