Default Can you help, does my printer need a new fuser or something else???

Hi I have a HPLJ 5200 that I have to look after and it is out of
warranty - It will not print if the paper is placed in tray 2 or 3 but
will if it is in the manual feed tray, tray 3. If I try to print from
tray 2 or 3 the paper does not get all the way through to the top - it
always gets stuck. Below is the output from printers event log. Could
someone explain this to me?
Thanks for your time

Default Can you help, does my printer need a new fuser or somethingelse???

I had a similar problem with a 4350 printer and it was a sensor that
was bad. I believe I was told the sensor was still seeing the paper in
the printer and would send a jam signal. Sometime a good cleaning will
cure the problem.

It is extremely unlikely that this is a fuser problem, in fact I would say it
can't be based on your description and the error codes you posted.
If you separate tray 3 from the printer do you still get jams from tray 2?
Does the jam occur every page?
Did both trays suddenly exhibit this failure at the same time?
Is there any sign of damage to the leading edge of the paper when it stops in
the printer, however slight?
Sensors can fail but it is a very rare occurence. It may be worth carefully
blowing out the paper path using dry compressed air (available in a can) but
remove as much toner from the paper path as you can before you do this and
expect the first 10 or more pages to be printed afterwards to be quuite dirty.
Most likely this is a feed roller issue and you are getting "paper late" due to
the roller not picking up the paper. Does the paper have a scuff mark on it
roughly in the centre very near the top of the page (these can be quite hard to
see).
You can remove the feed roller and clean it with a damp cloth, if it improves
performance a little then you need to replace the rollers and separation pads
in trays 2 and 3. If you need the part numbers and instructions on replacement
(very easy on this printer) let me know.

Hi thanks for posting a relpy I have been away fro a few days and have
not been able to get back in touch sooner - Anyway
I have removed tray 3 from the printer and still have got paper jams
from tray 2.
Yes paper jams on every occassion.
I dont know how long the printer has been failing as I am new here and
users can not tell me if both trays 2 and 3 both failed at same time.
Paper is fine /w regards to its leading egde.
I have not as yet tried the clear the paper pathway with compressed
air though I will do so and also I will try to clean the feed roller
as I believe that there is a slight mark on print jobs near the top of
the paper.
I must say thanks for your help and If the above advise does not work
than I will be back in touch to get the part numbers
Regards
Dan

Dan
Is the mark at the very top of the paper in the center, like a scuff?
If so, I would put money on it being the feed roller.
Good luck
