Proliant 1600 RAID Question
I have a good ol reliable 1600 Proliant running Netware 5.1 on it. I
added a drive to it. Not having any luck expanding the array using CPQONLIN. I can create a new array with the new drive but cannot see how to add the new drive to the current array. Any tips? Thanks |

Thanks Try: - Check the firmware and update if required (BIOS + Array controller) - Boot to a SmartStart 5.50 CD - Run the Array Configuration Utility - Add the drive to the array and let it rebuild - Restart Novell, and you should find that your old drives are there as you left them, and you have space to create a new partition. This should work regardless of the OS. This does depend on what RAID controller you have - not all SmartArray controllers can expand a RAID, but with most, you can add a disk and migrate the RAID to whatever it will be with an extra disk. Once you've migrated, you can't go back. |

Thanks I hate to pass on a 1600 question, but I have NEVER tried this, and I know squat about Netware. Hopefully LC has gotten some sleep. Jeff Not much sleep ... did 26 hours, and got a 5 hour nap ... im back at the helm. Well ... there is an NLM that loads up a dos-ish ACU that you can use to extend the capacity of the volume. I have never done a volume expansion under netware, so you might just want to take the extra space and create a new logical drive. That would be the smartest thing to do if you are uncertain about the how to epand, and perserve your data and drive geometry. I've installed the CPQ tools on a couple netware servers in my days ... but it was always in novell to microsoft conversions. hope that helps ... - LC |
