Default BFG video cards and overclocking

I know the difference between my stock settings and my OC settings
are minimal, and that it only gives me a couple hundred extra

my games, but I just think that half the fun of building and owning
your own PC is optimizing it to get the best performance out of it.

I agree it's fun, and getting a couple of hundred more in a synthetic
benchmark like 3DMark06 is rewarding to see, but I can assure you
that this does not translate to 2-3 fps more in actual demanding
games. In games like Crysis, it takes going from an 8800GT to an
8800GTX gives about a 3 fps framerate increase.

I wonder how much of an increase in FPS people will see in Crysis with
the 9900's, assuming that's what they'll be named. Nvidia is all over
the map these days with their naming scheme.

I don't think it makes any sense at all. You don't get much
and Rivatuner will tell you that right away. It is better in my
opinion to buy a fast ... and faster ... video card after the
prices have dropped to around $180 ( down from $700 ),
and the next gen cards come out ( typically in about 6 months
with nVidia ). No matter how much you OC, the next gen
card will top that ... and be stable.

I have 2 BFG cards .. a 7900, and an 8800 .. and both of
them run games well .. in their time. I spent my money
on Zalman coolers for both cards, and say to heck with
the warranty. I want cool quiet cards, and I have them.
BFG builds solid but noisy cards, so I'll keep buying them
.... and keep voiding the warranty with Zalmans to quieten
them.
