I'm just curious -- is it the Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus
thing, or are men more involved with their "toys"?

I mean in the past, there was the "women aren't very good at math" and
other societal things like women are supposed to learn how to bake
killer chocolate chip cookies while men are supposed to fix their
cars, mow the lawn, and arm wrestle at the local bar ...

But now, all that has changed. The gender roles in the last two
coporations that I worked for are now equal.

Yet, here we are, in a computer newsgroup, and almost every poster is
a man.

I don't understand, what's going on here ...

Uh oh. Now you've done it.

I suspect you'll find out what I mean, shortly.

I mentioned your remarks to my wife. She annoyed me by saying "Women have
better things to do than waste time reading the comments of others and
besides, we already know everything; we don't need any help". I want you
all to know that I'm punishing her by being silent. :)

Welcome to the field of engineering. The ratio in most lower division
computer science or electrical engineering courses was 80:20 at my
school (UCSD), and it got worst the further you went. Physics is a
little better, but go to something like Chem or Bio if you want to meet
women and still be a science (sorry, even if you can get a BS in them, I
don't consider Econ/Management Science, Math, or Psych as science --
though Psych is good for meeting girls, too).

Maybe the women are smart enough not to reveal that they're a woman. Maybe
they've figured out how to do a google search? Or maybe they're smart
enough to tell dear hubby that "The computer's broke, please fix it while I
do the laundry" (given that choice, I know which one I'd chose). Just a
couple of thoughts...

been lurking for a few days. I have a problem with my Inspiron 510 but
dealt with it all by myself!
....or thought I did...
I was going to come in here tomorrow singing Dell's praises but...
After saying they would send an adapter as my 2nd one is probably faulty
(the first bust three months ago) I see on the status page the order has
been cancelled.
so do I stay in all day waiting or not stay in. Dell haven't answered my
query as to what's going on more to the point haven't e mailed me to
say they've cancelled.
Probably something to do with the guarantee running out within the
fortnight.

Hi Rose,

With Dell, just be persistent. I am going to post probably Monday
about an almost unbelievable "customer support" experience, that has a
happy ending only because I was persistent.

I tend to write books so if you intend to read the whole post I
recommend reading glasses (I'm holding out, I mean what the heck,
isn't the aging process going to make me a special exception?).

Let's see, the 510 ... well, that power supply is sometimes $19, or
sometimes $99 depending on when and which product you bought it with.

I think some of the Latitudes in Small Business had it for $19, but
some of the Inspirons in Dell Home had them for $79 or $99. I have
all of the above and they all work the same (when they are working).

So, they should replace it but worst case you can probably get one
from Ebay for a good price.

Glad to see you posting :-)

I am Women Here Me Roar!!!! :-). I only get involved when I can help
with something or need an answer to something. I am glad you received
and like your PC. Today I spent the afternoon and in a minute will go
back to watch some more of the Highlander. I bought the entire 2nd.
season on DVD. I like good looking Macho Men. :-) I like Jet Li movies
too. I'm old single and only do what I want. I spoil me. I'm a gamer
and have Dimension XPS and Inspiron XPS. No problems with them or my
Dimension 8300 or my Pentium 233 MMX for Dos games. No hubby any more
to say what the heck do you want all those computers, games and DVD's for.

Really though, lately there has been too much just complaining. But if
you really need help, this is the place to come. I for one want to
thank all the "Gu Ru's" who are now referred too, by many, as the "Dell
Bots" for their knowledge and intelligence of computers and their
willingness to help all.

To everyone a great St. Paddy's Day tomorrow. :-)

Joan
