Default How to do Clean Install

My brother has a new Dell computer with Windows XP. A trojan horse has
wreaked havoc on his system, and is slower than cold molasses. I tried to
get the system to boot up on the Recovery CD ... but on boot up, the cd
doesn't boot. I don't think the CD is included in the boot-up process, and I
never get the screen where you press a key to get into system setup to
enable the system to boot up from a CD.

So, how do we start from scratch? Make a bootable XP floppy, and go from
there?

Don't make sense to me, so if anyone can lend some insight, we'd appreciate
it.

Thanks,

--Jim

There's no recovery CD. You get a full XP installation disk. Make sure
your BIOS is set to boot to the CD drive. You'll be prompted to hit any
key to boot to it. That should get you into the WinXP installer.

To boot from the CD, place it in the drive and press F12 on power up.
You'll get a boot menu. Arrow down and select IDE CDROM device.....

Never could figure out how to get to that point.
Just learned about the f-12 key on bootup.

Thanks for the response.
