Default thoroughbred mobo with barton?

i have an asus a7v266-e. There is a bios update on the site that supports an
athlon xp 2600+ (266mhz) thoroughbred. i can't seem to find one anywhere. so
my question is.. will it work?.. simply clock itself down from 333mhz bus?

anybody try this?

thanks alot

Yes, the processor will just be underclocked but will still work (allbeit a
bit slower than it should)

It should work but with that (XP2600 w/333FSB) on your board the
resulting speed will be:

12.5 X 133.33 = 1.67 GHz, same as an XP2000 but more expensive

If your motherboard has (working) multiplier adjustment in the bios
(or actually, even if it doesn't) you'd be better off getting
something between XP2100-XP2400, then if it has multiplier adjustment
you'll be over that 13X "hump" and could futher increase the
multiplier to compensate for the lower FSB speed, without modifying
the CPU.
