Default Best Print Server for HP IIIP?

Hello ALL:

I have an HP IIIP and an SMC 7004BR router/print server. It all runs OK,
except that the router needs to be rebooted if the Printer is off and my
wife sends a print job to it. It also hangs if there is a paper out on the
IIIP.

It seems slow as well. I was wondering if a stand alone server like the
Netgear PS111W would resolve all of this or will it still be slow and hang
on errors. I have no problems printing whatever I wish...just that the
server does not seem to be able to handle errors.

TIA
