Dual 700MHz PIIIs in a Proliant 1600 ?
Has anyone had any success upgrading the CPU's of a Proliant 1600 to
anything more powerful that 600MHz... if so, I'd really like to know the spec of the CPU's you've used ? Thanks in advance. Steve |

Nope ... I dont think its a function of the processor spec. It has to do
with the chipset support for Coppermine die architecture support. Basically, the proliant 1600 has a BX chipset implimentation ( on a GTL+ system bus architecture ) which limits you to the Medocino (SP?) based CPU's, and that die process tops out at 600Mhz. If you want a more powerful system, you can put the guts of a ML370 in there and have coppermine CPU support on a 133Mhz bus, and 4GB ram support. They have the exact same chassis, and while I havent done that particular combination myself, in theory it is doable. - LC "Steve" wrote in message oups.com... Cpu cage only or more?

"Alex Blanco" wrote in message ... Cpu cage only or more? the more i think about my previous statement, the more I think I might have been mistaken. the ML370 has a much different systemboard and PCI I/O board design than the 1600, so i dont think that particular trick will work. There isnt a CPU cage in ML370. Its a 2 board desigh, where the 1600 has a CPU cage, a power / bridge board, and then the PCI I/O board (3 components). Your 1600 will top out at 600Mhz. If you want more ram and faster processrs, the ML370 is an upgrade path worth conisdering. - LC |
