GA-K8NXP-SLI and the K8DPS
I'm considering using this board for my next system build. The
motherboard manual talks about the K8DPS (Dual Power System) daughter card. It doesn't say much about the K8DPS except it is 'cool stylish neon blue', and can be used in parallel mode, working with the motherboard CPU power providing a total of 6 phase power. This is way over my head! Can anyone tell me why I would need a DPS? What benefits does it bring? I wondered if it was something to do with dual core CPU's. I was considering pairing the motherboard with an AMD (venice) Athlon 64 3000+ or maybe a 3200+, and then get a dual core cpu in a year or when when the prices have dropped. The K8DPS also has a small fan on it. I'm going to make the system as silent as possible. If the K8DPS is needed, can the fan be replaced with a quality heatsink? Thanks! Mike |

Mike I own K8NXP-9 and used heatpipe fanless K8DPS -- which is good one. You cant but the K8DPS alone as it only package with motherboard, K8DPS is for 6 cycle with Processor to motherboard plus if mainboard is fail then K8DPS take over andkeep running -- it like backup. only you buy this one with any motheboard like you got one but dont come alone. -- Posted using the http://www.hardwareforumz.com interface, at author's request Articles individually checked for conformance to usenet standards Topic URL: http://www.hardwareforumz.com/Gigaby...pict60747.html Visit Topic URL to contact author (reg. req'd). Thanks ScotsLucky. I hadn't realised it was packaged with the board.
Hopefully the heatpipe version of the K8DPS is a later revision. I'll be buying in about a month, so hopefully I'd get one of these with the motherboard. Mike |

Yo Mike,
I see you are going for the SLI set-up. Yes the fan can be replaced with a bought fan, just check the spec's. It is quite a tight fit but can be done. The DPS does come with the motherboard. I would also suggest that you visit this site. http://www.slizone.com/ it explain the basics of building a SLI system. You will also need a decent power supply. Hope this is useful to you. -- Gee Smile Jesus Loves You wrote in message ups.com... I'm considering using this board for my next system build. Mike I bought it from www.overclockers.co.uk so they have some latest rev on K8NXP-9 that include heatpipe.. sop you may get one same as mine... the K8DPS with heatpipe include nice look on label, I didnt know about that so it much cooler and very quieter so I got one lucky and hope you get one as well. -- Posted using the http://www.hardwareforumz.com interface, at author's request Articles individually checked for conformance to usenet standards Topic URL: http://www.hardwareforumz.com/Gigaby...pict60747.html Visit Topic URL to contact author (reg. req'd). BillL You may get the same one as mine at http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatal...ocket_939.html so that it would be include new version of K8DPS heatpipe as GBT changed it from late May -- they replaced the fan and use the heatpipe -- I got one already... it look good as it much better than fan. -- Posted using the http://www.hardwareforumz.com interface, at author's request Articles individually checked for conformance to usenet standards Topic URL: http://www.hardwareforumz.com/Gigaby...pict60747.html Visit Topic URL to contact author (reg. req'd).
