Default registry error on every install

Everytime I install new software, I get the following entry upon startup:

Windows encountered an error accessing the system registry. Windows will
fix the registry for you, then restart your computer.

Then it restarts, and I have to re-install the software I just installed,
and sometimes the one before that.

Obviously, my registry is corrupt.

What tools would you guys recommend to deal with this?

Thanks.

Scan the hard drive with gwscan or the utility provided by the manufacturer
for that purpose.
It is very possible the drive is failing.

From what I have read on the net about gwscan, I am going to need to know my
computer's BIOS password. Any idea where I can find this?

Thanks.

You would need the computer's BIOS password to access the motherboard BIOS CMOS
setup. If the motherboard BIOS has a password, there are two ways to clear the
password for a desktop/tower computer. Either remove the motherboard's C2032 3v
lithium coin-sized battery for a couple of hours or find the motherboard jumper
used to clear all the CMOS settings including BIOS password.

Rather than run gwscan, I recommend that you determine the manufacturer of the
hard drive and go the the mfr's web site to download hard drive diagnostic
software made expressly for that brand of drive. Manufacturer's diagnostics are
generally about as accurate and explicit as you can get... Ben Myers
