Dimension or Optiplex?
I manage a few hundred OptiPlex machines at our University. I recently purchased a GX270 for home use and it rocks. It has a P4 2.4ghz hyperthreading processor, one gig of dual channel memory and a serial ATA 120 gig hard disk. I purchased a Nvidia Qaudro 4 vid card. The thing just rocks, boots fast, is a master at multitasking due to the ht technology and plays games and 3d authoring applications like no body's business. It is a nice machine for home or office. Reid "Kalman Rubinson" wrote in message ... The Dell in-house salesman is urging the Optiplex on me since that is 'favored' for local use in the Med Center. He assures me that the performance of the minitower OptiplexGX270 will be identical to that of a minitower Dimension 4600. Is that likely to be true? Apps are mostly WP, spreadsheets, PowerPoint and graphics manipulation, e-mail, etc. No gaming. Config includes 1G ram, 120G HD, DVD-R/RW, CD-RW, Audigy2 SB, 128M Invidia FX5200, etc. I took his advice and bought the Latitude instead of the Inspiron 2 years back and I have no complaints about that one.
