MMC 8.7 crashes a lot when recording

I didn't have this problem with MMC8.5.

I did a clean install of Win XP Pro then Service Pack 1.
Then DirectX 9.0b. Then ATI drivers and MMC8.7. All seem
fine. But when I doing recording, it crashes after a period
of time between 30 minutes and one hour. It hasn't done
recording for more than one hour.

I'm doing recording of cable TV in SVCD format at
resolution of 640x480 with my AIW8500DV's S-video port. My
computer is a P4 2.6Ghz with 256M DDR on a ASUS P4P800. Any
idea what's going wrong?

You can run de-bug mode, by pasting the following text into notepad, and
naming the file as log.reg. Then double click it to merge the info into
your registry.

The log file of de-bug will be found in your root directory, after you
run MMC. You can then check the log to see what may have gone wrong.


For example, MMC was crashing for me after I recently uninstalled
WinDVR. In looking at the de-bug console output, I could see that the
very last codec that MMC tried to load (and unsucessfully) was a WinDVR
codec. While the codec no longer existed on the hard drive, it was
referenced in the registry and therefore MMC tried to find it. After
deleting all of the Intervideo and WinDVR registry references, MMC was
fine.

Do you have the K-Lite codec pack installed? I read on the Rage 3D
forum yesterday that a person's MMC became unstable after the
installation of KLCodec pack. In fact, I was unable to transcode with
TmpgEnc without crashing, until I uninstalled KLcodec.

Remember that you'll have to delete the de-bug key from your registry
after you are done diagnosing.

Hi Claw. Thanks for the tip. I tried it out. Here's the
logme.txt created when I started MMC 8.7. I'm not sure if
another file will be created once the error message comes
out. I'll wait and see. But there's already some error
messages in this log that need to look at. Can you help and
troubleshoot. The file is attached and listed here too.
