Default Losing Hardware Acceleration on GeForce 6600

For some time I have had a peculiar problem with my GeForce 6600. From time
to time, my display suddenly seems to lose the hardware acceleration,
causing the colors, contrast, etc, to change. I then have to click on my
Display Properties and go to advanced for them to come back. I don't
actually have to re-enable the hardware acceleration, just going into the
advanced display settings does the trick, but the effect I get when it
happens is the same as if I had disabled hardware acceleration. The problem
can be caused simply by loading a web page or something or some similarly
undemanding function, but it also seems to happen if I make a video display
full screen. I tried downloading the latest drivers for my card, but if
anything, that seems to have made it happen more often.

Anybody else had this problem or have any suggestions?

The fact that it happens randomly means that it is probably not a driver
issue. It is probably a thermal fault that has developed in the card. I
would either return it for repair under warranty or replace it.

I don't know, it's not exactly random, it's always associated with an
action, it won't just happen on its own, and the fact that I can just go
back to advanced settings and get it back without actually changing any
settings sounds more like a software issue to me. It's literally like it
just "forgets" the driver settings. I will probably be replacing the card
soon anyway, I just wanted to hear if anyone might have had this problem or
had any suggestions.
