Default aptiva 2199 recovery cd problems

hi all
i cant boot from the cd to start the recovery program
the cd has been changed to a 52x cd writer and i have replaced the
[failed] hard disk with a seagate 40 gig...the bios has been updated
to the latest available from the ibm website...the 40 gig could not be
seen by the old bios....

it was booting from the cd before i updated the bios..is there a way
around this???
thanks for any and all comments
