Default RFC: Gateway 840 external SCSI-to-SATA backplane

I'm about to purchase a SCSI-to-SATA (12 HD or more) external
backplane. As a gateway server "shop", I've looked at the 840 storage
backplane? Any comments on this products, or recommendations from
other vendors?
