asus k8v
Hello
I am putting together a new system and plan to use the asus k8v with the AMD Athlon 64 3000. Is this the best/affordable combination. I would save a few pounds by going with the AMD 64 2800 but would I notice the difference. Also am I correct in assuming the asus motherboard comes with a sound card so I can just carry on using my stereo speakers. Thanks very much Smokeyone |

My experience is quite limited, but the combination you suggest is probably
a good one. You might be getting into diminishing returns in buying a faster CPU than the 3000+, but, as you say, it costs little more than a 2800+. You may also wish to consider a K8N board. (It uses an nVidia chipset, which is supposed to have higher performance than the Via one.) If you're a demon overclocker, www.anandtech.com likes the DFI Lanparty UT NF3 250Gb http://www.dfi.com.tw/Product/xx_pro...YPE=MB&SITE=UK (link may wrap). It may cost a bit more than the Asus board, though. Any of the above come with at least 6 channel onboard sound. I haven't used any of those. I have an A8V (Socket 939), and I like it. I've had good luck with Asus in the past, but this is my first AMD board. Regards, Bob Knowlden Address may be scrambled. Replace nkbob with bobkn. "Smokeyone" wrote in message om...
