Default P5E High Pitch Tone at startup

I took apart my computer to try out a new modular power supply. I
attached all the wires and turned it on and I now hear a high pitch
constant tone from the internal speaker on the motherboard and the
computer won't boot. I have put back in the old power supply and I
still get the constant tone and it won't boot.

I might have made a critical error when I was hooking up the new
supply. Along with all the modular cables the new power supply also
has a thin two wire (on a three pin connector) black and white cable
coming from it. I plugged that cable into one of the "PWR FAN"
connectors, not thinking that both the connector from the power supply
and the connector on the motherboard are sources. But the motherboard
lights up (green led) and there is power to the blue light on the
sound card board that plugs in, so hopefully I didn't blow anything.

What does the high pitch tone mean? I downloaded the P5E manual and
don't see any explanation of trouble-shooting tones.

I know that sense of relief when what appears to be a major
problem turns out to be something as simple as a missed
connection.
