Thunderbird

Slightly off-topic here. But anybody started using the Thunderbird
email/news client yet? I'm just starting to get used to it now. It seems
to format the messages on email & Usenet better, however it lacks the
multipart message support that OE has. There doesn't seem to be too
much that's missing in it that OE had.

I'm already defaulted on Firefox on the browser side of things.

I been using TBird for about a year now, and long
before that I was using the all-in-one Mozilla
that TBird and FireFox split off from.

There is no capability to handle multipart messages
yet, so I use XNews for the binaries newsgroups.

A few "Request for Enhancement" (RFE) entries
about the multipart issue are in BugZilla.

Been using it for about a year now. Works quite well for me.
I don't have much need for combine & decode, so that's not really an
issue for me.

The only real issues I have with it a

1) rare crash on setting a message label:

2) a very tiny number of groups won't load completely for me:
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=252000

Neither of which is really enough to dissuade me from using it.

I you manage to create signature to had at the end of email just tell me
how to do so !!

The stuff I dont like is the way Thunderbird handle passwords for
example to access a news server, it really really sucks !

What I love is that you can see smiley icons instead off keyboard sign

I you manage to create signature to had at the end of email just tell me
how to do so !!

Create small text files containing the desired signatures.
I use plural because you might want different signatures for
different mail accounts or news servers.

Next go into the settings for each mail and news server and
point it to the desired sig file for that account.
Use Tools|Account Settings, select an account from the left
side of the window, and then check "Attach this signature"
in the lower right side of the window - and use the obvious
button to browse to one of the sig files you previously made.

I'd set the follow-up to a TBird newsgroup, but setting
follow-ups or crossposts to groups on a different server
doesn't seem to be allowed.

Thunderbird is all we use at my house (for email only). OE is the
first thing to go, followed by IE (replaced by Firefox).

IE is the first thing that went here, still on the fence with OE vs.
Thunderbird so far. The email handling is definitely much better in
Tbird; but newsgroup handling is still not quite. Wish they'd introduce
the adaptive Junk mail filter for newsgroups, and wish they'd give you
the chance to download all of the new headers in newsgroups ahead of time.

Yes, but I used to be using OEQuotefix with OE before, and that too
allowed the smileys to be translated into pictures.

For example, when I post this article, TB handles the formatting
properly in this article itself. I hope this translates into /italics/,
this into *bold*, and this into _underline_. I don't know what this is
going to translate into ~blah~.

Thunderbird so far.

Well, on my PC I trash both IE and OE immediately, but my daughter
maintains that IE works best for the silly kid's sites she frequents,
so she still uses IE.

I have a tough time convincing kids not to simply accept files from
anyone especially from people they chat with on IM networks. The other
day a friend's daughter came running down from her room, all agitated,
thinking her computer's been infected with a virus when she accepted a
file called funny.exe from somebody on MSN! It was easy enough to get
rid of but they never learn.
