Default 8KNXP Northbridge

Why is there a fan on the Northbridge, the heatsink doesn't even get warm
to the touch with no fan? Does it heat up under a heavy load, and if so,
what component puts on that heavy load?

The asus P4C800 (an i875 chipset also) has a heatsink only.
I ripped my fan / heatsink off and put on a zalman passive heatsink.
The system has been running like that for months and seems as good as it was
before. (IE the bios is still crap).

If you want quiet, a zalman 7000alcu is a good replacement for the stock
intel heatsink / fan if you still have it - there may be better products on
the market now.

I also rupped out the extra PSU board - the zalman won't fit with it in
place and it seems to make no difference to stability. IE I am not
experiencing any crashes.

Thanks, I agree with your cooling method, and also that the Dual Power
Supply is of no value (sure is pretty though, isn't it).
