Tablet memories
Hi I found it infuriating here (UK) watching TV presenters with tablets far bigger than the ones in the shop. I have had a look again and found:
http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/versus-...46536-pdt.html It states 16g memory but it looks like it only has 1g but is expandable. If so what type of memory is it I know about PC dim and Laptop sodim Is it the laptop memory I need and how do I know if there is a compatability issue with the timmings of the built in 1g HELP TIA Desmond. |

"Pre-order now, to get stock Mar14" http://www.versustablet.com/10-table...6gb-p-202.html Dual Core ARM Cortex A9 1280 x 800 IPS Screen 10 point multi-touch touch screen Micro SD card expansion slot HDMI out 16GB Flash NAND - Internal Memory --- this is your disk "drive" Memory Expansion up to 32GB --- adding a second "drive" using via Micro SD Card slot a microSD chip. 1GB DDR3 RAM --- System memory appears fixed. It is likely soldered to the PCB. There is no door on the back of the unit, to add RAM. The right hand of this photo, shows the back of the thing. http://www.versustablet.com/images/pics/19_1.png You'll notice the items at the bottom of this page, are limited to 1GB of system RAM here. This could just be a typical Cortex A9 configuration. Cortex A9 doesn't tell us the exact SOC chip. That's just the name of the architecture. We'd need info on the SOC used, to determine if more RAM could be fitted. But if the existing RAM is soldered down, expansion would "require a soldering iron" :-( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cortex_A9 The tablet is not very thick. To add a memory socket, adds thickness to the unit. As does using a battery pack that is removable. So things like batteries are affixed to the inside. The RAM would be soldered down. Only your "disk drive" slot is usable for storage. There is a mini USB connector of some sort, and that's another way you can connect to it. Paul |

Desmond, What is confusing here is that the term "Memory" means two different things depencding on how it's used. The 1 GB memory is the Random Access Memory, RAM. This is the working memory that the computer processor uses. The 16 GB memory refers to "storage". This is basically the same as disk storage, only it's solid-state storage. Storage memorey is expandable because the unit has a micro-SD card slot. It's unclear (to me) if their reference to 32 GB means you can add a 16 GB micro-SD to total 32 GB, or if you can add a 32 GB card. |

Ok thanks. I try and find out if adding 32g means 32g or 16+32g I also take it both the solid state drives can store music and video and that as the 32g is removable I can do a solid state disk swap. Looks good though. A 7" tablit is a bit small for me. |

Yes, but just remember that flash memory (storage) on an SD card typically runs much slower than an internal SSD, and that only the memory on the SD card seems to be "removable". |

Yes, but just remember that flash memory (storage) on an SD card typically runs much slower than an internal SSD, and that only the memory on the SD card seems to be "removable". The description here is rather open ended. The typical card you might find at the Walmart (SDHC), tops out at 10MB/sec best case. But at least in terms of "standards" defined, UHS defines higher rates. Whether you can actually buy one of those, and have it work with that tablet, is another matter. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SDXC#SDXC The article here, the UHS II announcement, there are some extra pins defined on the package. http://hothardware.com/News/SD-Assoc...Specification/ I can see a vanilla UHS example here. Advert makes a glib reference to 45MB/sec. It would be interesting, in the tablet documentation, whether it supports the UHS speeds or not (clock rate). http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004Q3C98S (Review) "I received my card today, and it failed to work. I called SanDisk support and they determined my card was a fake. I highly recommend if your card doesn't show up in a factory sealed box..like you'd buy from Walmart..Then send it back ASAP. The really sad part of this is that Amazon sent this directly to me." The 32G storage capacity value implies (perhaps) the tablet support SDHC but not SDXC ? But the documentation for this tablet leaves a lot to be desired. Kinda like buying a melon at the grocery store. If I was buying it, I'd expect to see a downloadable "user manual" first. And the user manual had better be specifying what I can use with the limited expansion slots. Paul |
