"First of One" wrote in message ... Or use both: http://www.trustedreviews.com/images...e/1964full.jpg Note the dual-fan cooling shroud over an equally impressive heat sink. Find the shroud or a current-generation Dimension case on eBay and you are set. You could run them really slow and quiet. -- Ed Light Smiley :-/ MS Smiley :-\ Send spam to the FTC at Thanks, robots. |

"dvus" wrote Why did you remove the CPU heatsink fan? Seems like it might be a little insurance if the case fan went out. I went for a quiet pc. With that cpu fan down in there, the duct became its megaphone. It was just a 70mm thin fan, so it had to rev up a bit to work ok. Of course the quieter case fan is echoing out the inner end of the duct. But I have my inner walls lined with some sound absorbing foam, so I'm not sure how loud it is. -- Ed Light Smiley :-/ MS Smiley :-\ Send spam to the FTC at Thanks, robots. |

You can get a quality Panaflo or Pabst ball-bearing fan that'll last
forever. However, cheap CPU fans will not. -- "War is the continuation of politics by other means. I believe in using quality parts when protecting something as pricey as a CPU or GPU and will search out good fans when I try this mod. Stuff like ball-bearing fans aren't really easy to find locally so I may have to resort to getting them on-line. I've had the fan sieze on a video card before and the result was corrupted graphics but cleaning it up and lubing the bearing seemed to bring it back to life. I only have myself to blame however, as I used to smoke around the computer. I've since cut that out. -- dvus |

Then again, all P3 and P4 CPUs, all Athlon64s (and I believe all FX5900 and
later video cards) have thermal shutdown protection. Eventually the fan won't be as mission-critical as it is now. -- "War is the continuation of politics by other means.
