Default USB2.0 via PCMCIA crashed my laptop

Hi,

I'm using a USB2.0 external DVD+-RW drive on my laptop via a PCMCIA USB2.0
adapter (since I only have USB 1.1)

I can read from the drive fine, but any kind of write causes my laptop to
lock up.

Does anyone know what could be wrong?

thanks for any help,
John.

If I use the drive on the built in USB1.1 ports, it works fine (read and
write), it's just slow.

What OS are you using? If XP, you must have SP1 for USB 2.0, and there is
an update for that.

Have you checked for a firmware or driver update for your device?

Also, check all the settings for the drive, and see if anything jumps out at
you.
