nf7-s memory question
I am thinking about buying the nf7-s 2.0 board and I have a couple of
questions... I have two sticks of more or less generic pc2100 256mb ram, and I would like to add another one stick of 512mb. Do I have to use pc2100 or can I buy pc2700 or pc3200? Any other advice? Thanks! |

You can use any speed DDR memory. The lowest speed rating of the set
will be the max speed you'll get. In some cases you'll have to go into the bios and manually adjust the memory, and perhaps fsb, settings. Regardless of the combination, as you add more sticks you will always decrease the max capabilities proportionately. For example, if you have two sticks of PC2100 memory that will work individually at say PC2200 fsb speeds max, using both may get you only PC2000 speeds max. Adjust FSB to get things stable in this case. "Butterfield" wrote in message ... I've got the same board. Get 2 sticks 256mb. Leave middle slot empty for dual channel mode. Maybe I'm confused, but Abit recommend using slots 2 & 3 for PC3200 / NF7-s, supposed to improve stability. -- Ian |

You install the two sticks in the two slots that are together which are slots 2 and 3. That's the way the manual says to do it and that's the way I do it and have no problems. Hank |

Hank I take that back it's slots 1 and 2 that are together but your right about Abit saying to use slots 2 and 3. Sorry for the confusion! Hank |
