XP1800+ instabile a freq. default!
My Athlon Xp 1800+ is acting very weird...
At 1530Mhz (133*11.5), the default frequency, it is very unstable, I can't even boot Win2000 or Linux. I can add up some vcore but i will produce lot of heat doing that (it's a Palomino...). I have to keep it at 126x11.5, 1450 Mhz real, that is the frequency of the 1700+ (altho mine is a 1800+ !!) It isn't a great problem, the difference of speed is very minimal but I'd have to sell it now and I would like to know why it acts like that. I have to say that for the first months I overclocked it at 1900+ with a sligh overvolt (0.5v or like that), when I decided to make my pc silent I reduced the frequency but it didn't work anymore at 1800+. What happened? Can it be fixed in some way? Thanks for your help. |

Does your bios allow a 15x multiplier? .. if so then turn it down to 100*15 or leave the fsb where it is and turn up the multiplier 126*12.. both of those ways will get your processor running a tit's 1800+ speed and the ram will be clock'd down allowing you to see if it's stable, if it is stable then that just adds to it that the ram is probably flakey at 133 (or the timings you have for it & 133) |

Uhm, I also thought about that but I don't think so because it is a 333mhz DDR and worked flawlessy with 1900+ and overvolting. I also set timings to 3-3-3. Other ideas? Thanks for the reply... |

I had an 1800+ palamino that would not run @133 on an Epox 8kta3+ ( 266 ) I had to run it at 130 I first thought it was ram but the modules ( 2x256meg branded cas2 ) checked out fine in another board running at 147mhz. The chip was stable at 130 under linux running seti@home for about 4 months 24/7. I got hold of a 2000+ and this ran fine at 133 infact I was able to get it stable at 140mhz with just a small vcore increase, this ran seti for about 3 months till I swapped to a 8k5a3+ and is still running today in a mates machine, the 1800 though was put in a 8kta3L+ board and showed the same problem, would not go above 130mhz. I thought I was the only one that had seen this, maybe some of the earlier 1800`s were not quite 100% good. Can you find someone with a known good mobo and ram to swap your chip into to test if it runs at 133? I know this is not much good at solving your problem but thought I would let you know that you are not the only one to have seen this. HTH -- Mark Twixt hill and high water. N.Wales, UK. to test if it runs at 133? I don't think... I'll try to. Anyway I'll prolly give it to my father for running it on a KT7 M/B (Via KT133) at 100 FSB so it isn't a so big trouble anymore prolly. I know this is not much good at solving your problem but thought I would let you know that you are not the only one to have seen this. It's important to know I'm not the only one on the earth with such a weird problem ;-) Marco |
