Default new" intel" driver turning off write cache

After upgradeing the Intel 82801EB ATA storage drivers I happened to look
thru the event log and spotted that immediately after boot the write cache
was turned off for the WD800JB PATA drive. A second western digital WD800JD
SATA was left with its write cache enabled.

While I say :"Intel drivers", the driver details list the provider as
Microsoft. I did downloaded them from Dell support as Dell's latest and
greatest. One of the drivers is actually named "intelide.sys" so I am
calling them intel drivers.

Anyway, I was wondering why microsoft's driver turned off write cache on the
PATA but not the SATA This is a win2k system. I wonder if I went to
intel's web site and looked for 82801EB drivers if I would get a better one
that could handle the write cache???

Anyone ever noticed this?
